CHERRY CIRCLE ROOM

The historic Chicago Athletic Association reopened as a 241-room boutique hotel, bringing the 122-year-old Venetian Gothic building up to the present day and welcoming the public into the once-private and exclusive gentleman’s club. We were asked to mark this new beginning of a storied space by developing a brand identity for the Cherry Circle Room and Game Room bar.

Taking inspiration from the secret visual language of the Masons, we decided to create our own iconographic system to add an element of intrigue to the space. We imagined a code of conduct authored by the Cherry Circle Room’s inner council, leveraging illustration, type, symbols and fictional slogans to bring a cryptic narrative to life and visually convey the social conventions of an exclusive society.
